Project Summary

 BillinGard is based on auto billing system in Pharmacies, medical stores and grocery stores in which less human interaction and involvement is required. The cashier less stores or pharmacies are the new disruptive concept in the retail space that is fast catching up and gradually gaining traction in the market. We will build a system which will be a combination of both hardware and software part. BillinGard will use a mounted camera on conveyer belt to detect product or medicines, then controller will take product’s data and store it in databases, then with a help of built website, it will generate auto bill for a customer by using trained dataset of product’s description and their prices. It will help customer in quick exit after shopping from stores, malls because long queues on various store’s exit is hectic for a customer. No matter how many checkout lines brick-and-mortar stores facilitate, ensuring a swift movement has been quite a task. Standing in a long billing queue at a grocery store and pharmacies anxiously waiting for one’s turn is an experience that every shopper can resonate with. BillinGard can be used in various businesses such as grocery stores, medical stores, malls, pharmacies and supermarkets. This project has a desire to move consumers to a digital payment option and away from cash and checks. The ultimate goal of this projects is to reduce lines and increase foot traffic.

In case of pharmacies and medical stores, this project will be even more useful because emergency can happen any time and in case of emergency long queues on checkout is not bearable. Our system will allow to store, maintain, and update patient's diagnoses, testing, treatments, and bills easily and efficiently. This system will be not only a detection system used for auto billing in medical stores and malls but also an inventory system as well which will have complete information about inventory and stock of all products and medicines. So that if any medicine or product is out of stock the owner can know this before and can have backup stock.

Project Objectives

The nature of our project is to bring innovation in shopping. Our project is based on cashier less stores which requires less human labor and interaction. The Cashier less stores are the new disruptive concept in the retail space that is fast catching up and gradually gaining traction in the market. After all, it is a solution that offers a seamless shopping experience while skirting the pain points of customers.

The ultimate goal of this projects is to reduce lines and increase foot traffic. This project has a desire to move consumers to a digital payment option and away from cash and checks. It will help customer in quick exit after shopping from stores and malls because long queues on various store’s exit is hectic task for a customer.

Object detection has been a fundamental problem in computer vision for many years. Object detection methods can form fundamental building blocks for more complex computer vision tasks for things such as object tracking. The check-out process is one of the biggest pain points in shopping. Standing in a long billing queue at a grocery store and anxiously waiting for one’s turn is an experience that every shopper can resonate with. No matter how many checkout lines brick-and-mortar stores facilitate, ensuring a swift movement has been quite a task.

The recently established concepts vary and a deeper understanding of the underlying functionality is still

missing. Our qualitative project gives an overview of the design dimensions, challenges and opportunities

for cashier less stores.

Our project consists of two main components: the implementation of a detection system and the

development of a user interface website. The detection system will allow us to detect objects in stores or

malls. It will use a camera to identify objects in the equipment’s path.

Project Implementation Method

Project methodology:

  1. We are going to use iterative model of Software Development Life Cycle.
  2. In iterative model, we will quickly develop a basic version of our product. Then we will gradually modify and update it according to requirements and needs.
  3. First deliverable will be simple customize object detection system.
  4. Secondly, an inventory system will be built as an interface for customer.
  5. Then lastly, the system will integrate and work as a single system for various stores and malls.

Benefits of the Project

It will provide following benefits:

  • It can eliminate the manual data entry and calculation process.
  • It will help in devising the accuracy of all accounting records.
  • It diminishes human errors and keeps transactions explicit.
  • It will save a lot of time and money.
  • It also encourages faster payments.
  • It will be an autonomous system.

          In case of pharmacies and medical stores, this project will be even more useful because emergency can happen any time and in case of emergency long queues on checkout is not bearable. It will help in automating the time-consuming process like invoice generation, products tracking, other accounting documentation etc. Moreover, the software will automatically calculate and apply tax on the taxable products so that you need not worry about the tax at every time of billing. Our project should be accepted as it will minimize the risk of human error during billing and totaling as human interaction will be less. It will also reduce the human labor for this task. Our solution is especially helpful for businesses with a large and diverse customer base, a wide range of products/services provided, subscription or retainer billing models. It can support general-purpose and industry-specific (e.g., medical, telecom, transportation) billing.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

SOFTWARE ASPECT:

1- UI Website:

A complete system for user interaction with the detection system. It will take product’s data from controller which is identified by camera. Then it will store that data in system’s database.

2- Admin system:

  • Firstly, the admin control panel will be created. As after all this system will be used by humans.
  • In admin panel, a complete product’s CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) will be created.
  • Admin can create a product i.e. adding new product manually.
  • Admin can display all products data.
  • Admin can update any products data if required.
  • Admin can delete any product’s data from databases if that product is not required any more.
  • Admin can check the billing detail of any customer.

3- Cashier Role (For backup):

  • Cashier will be there for backup as automated system can halt or crash at any time.
  • Cashier can also work as payment gateway as not all people uses online payment methods; some people prefer cash in hands payment.

                        HARDWARE ASPECT:

List of product features:

  • Camera will detect the object or any store’s product.
  • Controller will integrate that object’s data into the system.
  • Sensors can be used such as weight or pressure sensors to sense the weight of products. (optional)

Detection System:

1- Scanner – Camera:

  • Firstly, a camera (will be bought not build) will be provided which will identify the products.
  • Roboflow software will be used to build custom dataset.
  • Yolov5 will be used to train model.

2- Controller:

  • It will take product’s data that is scanned by camera through a software program that will be integrate on it.
  • Then it will interact with website and provide it data.
