Project Summary

Automation system is one of the systems, which is used for controlling office aplliances automatically (sometimes remotely) with the help of various control systems. This  automation system was used for controlling the lights, air conditioning in the office, and  to control electrical & electronic appliances in the office using various control systems with appropriate sensors.

As the world is progressing and field of automation has well advanced in industries. But this automation system has not yet spread and its neither easily accessible in Pakistan, so we want to make it common in Pakistan and make people aware of an automation system and its uses.

The earth shattering advancement of Internet of Things (IoT) has enabled the realization of smart offices/homes of things to come. IoT devices in a smart office/home ideally communicate smoothly with one another with the help of internet. While there is an improvement in standard of human life.

In this automation system the system will perform our daily tasks such as turning on/off appliances through voice and an application. The technology we will be using in this is IoT. IoT is basically internet of things which means it connects devices through internet and they communicate with each other.

The project is based on mobile application (Android) and also we use raspberry pi to control appliances. To implement the project we need to have some basic concept of programming.

  • Python(interpreted high level general purpose programming language)

Project Objectives

The main intention of this project is for controlling various electrical loads remotely over internet using Internet Of Things (IOT). The smart phone android application with user configurable GUI front end can be used for real-time scenario.

Automation system is characterized by the ability of the system to perform tasks to control appliances. As the appliances are increasing in the market as days passes so the controlling of such devices is getting more and more attention.

The purpose of this project is to build a multi-language voice control IOT home automation using Google Assistant and Raspberry Pi.The main objectives of the project are:

  • Controlling appliances through voice recognition.
  • Controlling appliances through app.
  • Through app we are able to check in which room electrical appliance are on/off.
  • It will also help in security perspective that through app we can check the status and then turn electrical appliances on/off.
  • Managing all devices from one place.
  • Providing comfort to users.

Project Implementation Method

This project is hardware and software based so we need following components to implement this project:

  1. Esp32
  2. es01
  3. Raspberry pi 4 1gb
  4. power supply for Raspberry pi
  5. power supply for esp's
  6. Relay modules
  7. Voice Recognition sensor
  8. Loads

Firstly we will install software in  Raspberry Pi then we will create an application that will control all the appliances in office after this we will establish a connection between Raspberry Pi and application through wifi, so that the features that we have added in the application can work properly after this we will add voice recognition in the system so  the appliances of office can be controlled through voice command and application.

The touch commands are given from the mobile phone and are sent to the nearby wireless modem using allotted IP. The WiFi module receives these commands and fed it to raspberry pi interfaced to it. The relays interfaced to the raspberry pi through relay driver are operated based on the commands received. Thus, the electrical loads are operated (ON & OFF) and the status of loads either ON or OFF can be displayed at sending end over the LCD display.

ESP32 is a low-powered, low-cost micro-controller (MCU) board, with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in.Esp32 helps us to connect through raspberry pi and App through wifi and perform operations.

Relay module was use to control modules with a higher voltage with the Raspberry Pi.Pi only tolerates a maximum of 5V without relays, there is the risk that the Pi could burn out.
