3D wire bending machine is one of the important aspect of robotics. A 3D wire bending machine is an automatic bending machine which is able to bend and rotate wires into different shapes in accordance with the necessities of the user. It is designed to move automatically and to create a shape according to required design. Automatic wire bending machine doesn’t require any human effort for its operation. It enhances interdisciplinary approach to mechanical, electronics, electrical and programming skills.
This machine comprises of straightening mechanism, bending mechanism and control mechanism.
Straightening mechanism comprises of group of rollers which straightens the wire.
Control mechanism consists of Arduino board and other electronic circuitry. The required shape, design or bend in wire is attained using the program uploaded to Arduino board.
Bending mechanism uses a bunch of gears, stepper and servo motor to make the required shapes from the straight wires.
Automation and robotics has made revolution to modern industry. It is need of the time to make our machines smart and easy to use. Automatic wire bending machine is properly in accordance with modern automation. It is fully automatic and it makes 3D designs on contrary to conventional wire bending machines which make 2D designs only. Manual wire bending machines which perform 3D bendings are much costly. Automatic wire bending machine is much cheaper than manual benders and they are much efficient as they use programming for their operation.
The aim of the project is to design and develop a highly accurate machine used for wire bending.
The project will be approached in by dividing it into subsections of Mechanical Design and Electric circuit design. To approach any project, it requires a lot of researching, so before going into making the project, the important aspects of the project will be researched and noted which will help in designing.
Here's the mechanical Design of automatic 3D wire bending machine. So first, 3D CAD model will be design in solid works of wire bending machine. Gear, Roller, and Bearing pillow Block will be design and used. Gear are preferred to increase torque from the driving equipment (motor) to the driven equipment, to reduce the speed generated by the motor, and/or to change the direction of the rotating shafts. Gears operate in pairs, engaging one another to transmit power.Roller would be used to straightener the wire for further Process Shift and Z-axis mechanism would be design and used to feed and Rotate the bending mechanism to get 3D Desire shape. Next Step will be selection of material for the design of parts and foundation machine i.e Gear, Roller, Bearing pillow Block and rack and pinion. Material selection will be based on its strength, weight, availability and cost. For the practical design of the 3D wire bending mechanism, the method of 3D printing will be selected because it is easy for fast prototyping, cheap and readily available.
In this step, the Electric circuit of the 3D wire Bending machine will be designed.Raspberry pi, stepper motor, servo motor, Touch display and motor driver will be used. The Raspberry Pi is a very cheap computer that runs Linux, but it also provides a set of GPIO (general purpose input/output) pins that allow you to control electronic components for physical computing and explore the Internet of Things (IoT). A stepper motor is an electromechanical device it converts electrical power into mechanical power. Also, it is a brushless, synchronous electric motor that can divide a full rotation into an expansive number of steps. The motor’s position can be controlled accurately without any feedback mechanism.In an embedded circuit for the control scheme of the Bending machine will be devised and implemented on the Bending machine. Initially, all the testing and prototyping will be done through a micro controller like Arduino.
Automated 3d wire bending machine hopefully will not have much complexities and technicalities. It is designed to be operated even by the least skilled labour. Still there are some technical details to be provided for better understanding and operating of the machine.
