According to data from the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Pakistan’s labour productivity is estimated at $15,430 in 2018, having grown at an average of 1.5% per year since the year 2000. In the year 2000, Pakistan’s labour productivity exceeded that of both China and India. Thus the focus of presented work is on improving productivity end of an industry.[1] In order to enhance productivity, and efficient and smart AI-Based Sorting System is proposed. It will serve as an economical solution for the industry to help them reduce their financial resources. The proposed design is based on image processing and AI algorithms. The proposed project consists of both Hardware and Software in an integrated system. The proposed project will be implemented in industry. Furthermore, the proposed system not only improve productivity but it will also assist them financially. The project embarks on the following objectives: -
To design and implement the Artificially Intelligent (AI)based project for efficient and smart sorting of products at packaging end in the industry using open-source technologies to save economic resources. -
To achieve barcode detection, QR Code detection and text detection using image processing. -
Implementation of IoT for control & parameters monitoring -
To develop an economic substitution for the industry to help them reduce their financial resources without compromising the packaging end sorting standards. | | Project Implementation Method |
In the proposed system operator could interact with the system using a Smartphone application or by manual control through the touch panel on sub-units which will replace conventional switchboards. Control Panel: will act as an intermediate medium between the system and operator and display the control and monitoring parameters using the Master hub. BACKEND-UNIT: will comprises of robotics arm, system control circuit camera for image processing Master-hub to have a microprocessor to perform sorting of products. MASTER-HUB: will have a micro processor, communicate with another interface with android app and have AI (machine learning) algorithms and a database embedded to keep data in order to detect QR and Barcode. ANDROID APP: will provide the control features and monitoring parameters of products to be sorted as output. Implementation scheme is shown below:  | | Benefits of the Project |
The following are the benefits of the project: -
The proposed project can be used in the health sector and the agriculture sector at the packaging end. -
The sorting procedure will speed up at the packaging end. -
Number of workmen required for sorting and analyzing the products will be reduced to a single operator. -
Human Errors will be reduced. -
The productivity of the industry will be increased. -

The proposed system comprises of three units namely Master-hub, Back-end unit, and Control panel which consists of the following hardware: -
Elegant and compact exterior of Master-Hub and Control panels which will replace the conventional switchboards with touch switches. -
Control Unit for controlling of conveyer belt. -
Android App for control and parameter monitoring. -
HMI for manual control in the control panel. -
Camera Module for image processing. -
The system will have a database for barcode, QR and text detection. -
Master Hub comprises of Rasberry pi for image processing & algorithms. -
