Currently, most of the antenna alignment systems for satellite tracking in Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) Vans are either manual or semi-automatic requiring human effort and time. Even for a semi-automatic system, the cost is high and non-availability of maintenance parts render them un-repairable in case of even a small damage, which is quite common in hostile live reporting environment of Pakistan.

The idea is to design an automatic antenna alignment system targeted for DSNG vans that can be controlled using an android application. The alignment system will be fully automatic, tracking up to 6 satellites including Paksat and AsiaSat. The system will have options of moving the antenna to a particular location by simply putting the satellite coordinates as well as the option of manual alignment. For security purpose, the authorized access feature will also be included.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

Antenna will be controlled through an android application that can be installed on an android supported device. Antenna will be able to rotate 360 degree in azimuth and elevated angles using motors and motor drivers, controlled using Arduino. The Arduino will be connected to android app via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology. On the other side the dish antenna will be connected to receiver through LNB to display.

Benefits of the Project Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The antenna alignment system prototype will be operated through android app on a cell phone through which the dish antenna will align itself to that specific satellite. In addition, the manual option of moving the antenna through joypad/directional keys on cell phone will also be provided. Further, the password protected authorization will also be incorporated.
