Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThe main aim of this project is to establish such railway gates in place of existing manual railway gates, to reduce maintenance expenditure, human mistake and accidents,. More effectiveness necessary for improving safety. The proposed model has been designed using microcontroller and GSM module to avoid railway accidents without man power. When the train reaches the sensors, the sensors can send the signal to the micro controller and it activate the GSM module. After receiving the signal to the micro controller, it can activate the motors to close or open the gates. Again, it starts working when the train passed over the station automatically the gates will be opened.
Project ObjectivesAutomatic railway gate control systems reduce the time for which gate remains closed. This type of gates can be employed in an unmanned level crossing where the chances of accidents is higher and reliable operation is required. Automatic operation prevents errors due to manual operation. It may be proved a very useful project, which will help in automatic opening and closing the railway gate upon detecting arrival or departure of the train. In general, Railway gates are opened or closed manually by a gate keeper, which includes chances of accidents.
Project Implementation MethodThe followin main components can be deployed in this project
Microcontroller,Servo motor ,LED light for indication,GSM module, Sensors (IR sensor) ,Battery source
First of all the two sensors are placed at some distance from the railway gates,so when the train is arrived and passes through the first sensor,it can be detected by the sensor and then sensor will convey the message to the Microcontroller. Then microcontroller will activate the servo motors to close the gates before the train arrived at the Railway gates. It will also on the LED red light placed at the side of gate to indicate the arrival of train to travellers. Similarly when the train will pass through another sensor at the departure side of train , it will detect the passing of train and sends signal to microcontroller to open the railway gates. In this Scanerio, a GSM module will also be used which will send the messages of the proper working of Railway gates to the authorized person at the Railway station.

It can provide us a safe and sound closed path to railway tracks.An automatic railway-crossing-gate controller is used to prevent accidents at unmanned level crossings to provide much needed safety.
Automatic operation prevents errors due to manual operation.
In Pakistan, as every year a huge number of accidents occur due to lack of railway gates and also due to human error, So It can controlled the railway gates automatically without any kind of man power.
By providing safe path it results into low rate of human mistakes and accidents occured due to lack of railway gates or human errors.
Such efficient controllers are mostly used in remote areas that often lack the services of a station master or line man at the crossing levels.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableTechnically,it will operated on the principle of detection of objects through the sensors and proceed it.
When the train reaches the sensors, the sensors can send the signal to the micro controller and it activate the GSM module. After receiving the signal to the micro controller, it can activate the motors to close or open the gates. Again, it starts working when the train passed over the station automatically the gates will be opened.
When the train is detected by the sensor then at the same time a red LED light will glow to indicate the arrival of train to the traffic on road and also a buzzer alarm will also be sounded.Similarly when train passed away LED l;ight turns into green and buzzer closed.
