Project Area of Specialization Computer ScienceProject SummaryResearchers and developers have provided intelligent solutions for smart shopping. These solutions were primarily related to smart billing of items and comparisons of costs of the total list of items. Carrying a heavy trolley along is a hectic and energy-consuming activity. There is a need to develop a solution to this problem. This project aims to provide a human following intelligent trolley equipped with the internet of things (IoT) integrated with image processing algorithms. This trolley can easily move on track and slide down from an escalator. In order to implement the idea, a line following portable robot is installed under the trolley to lead the users to the items’ location that they plan to purchase in the supermarket. After the implementation of this Trolly, People can easily carry their shopping items with ease and it will be very helpful in Marts and supermarkets.
Project ObjectivesWe want to propose a solution for an automatic human following trolley in shopping malls and marts with RFID Reader. It is difficult to carry a heavy trolley along with shopping items in shopping malls. It became more hectic when you want to complete your shopping in a limited time. According to the best of our knowledge, there is no such solution available in Pakistan.
Project Implementation MethodFor the development of the trolley, Hardware and Software system design will be used. In hardware, Ultrasonic sensors will be used to avoid obstacles. Motor drivers will be used to drive the trolley. RFID will be used to fetch the data from the database regarding the amount of any specific product. And For the Purpose of Moving Trolley Automation, We will use an HD Camera. Whenever the User takes a trolley, it will capture an image of a Human and continuously detect the live image of a human with the previously taken image.
- A camera will be used to do the Image processing.
- Raspberry pi will act as a microcontroller.
- DC Motor will be used to convert the dc voltage into rotating mechanical power.
- Ultrasonic sensors or IR sensors will be used for obstacle detection.
- Motor Driver will provide current to move the trolley.
- Step 1: Attach multiple Cameras with one another to create 360 angles. It will help the trolley to detect the human from far enough distances.
- Integrate Camera, DC Motor, and Other Hardware Components with Raspberry Pi.
- Program Raspberry Pi.
- Test the Trolley

It will be helpful for shopping purposes in marts and shopping malls. We will not need to pull trollies now, and we will only concentrate and enjoy our shopping. It will also be helpful regarding our time-consuming.
