The solar lawn mower is a fully automated grass cutting robotic vehicle powered by solar energy that also avoids obstacles and Is capable of fully automated grass cutting without the need of any human intervention. The system uses 12v batteries to power The vehicle movement motors as well as the grass cutter motor. We use a solar panel to charge the battery. The grass cutter and Vehicle motors are interfaced to an Arduino Nano that controls the working of all the motors. It is also used to interface an ultrasonic sensor for object detection.The SoC moves the bot in the forward direction in case no obstacle is detected. On obstacle detection; the ultrasonic sensor monitors it and the SoC thus stops the grass cutter motor to avoid any damage to the object/human/animal whatever it is.

Project Objectives

The solar lawn mover is a fully automated grass cutting robotic vehicle .Powered bysolar energy that also avoidsobstacles and is capable of fully automated grass cutting without the need for human intervention. The brain of the bot is the ardiuno nano which decides the various actions.The laser beam A, when detected, causes the start event and the bot mves forward until it detects laser beam B. When laser beam B is detected the bot stops for the time period of two seconds and then takes a right angle turn and moves forward by 8 inches and takes another right angle turn and starts moving forward. This steps are repaeated until the laser beam C detected along with laser beam A. When laser Beam A and C are detected triggers the stop event

Project Implementation Method

The intended controller consists of five behaviors running concurrently. These behaviors, on getting stimuli from environment will appropriately react to modify the motor actions of robot. The robot initially starts wandering in the workspace, which is the basic behavior of robot. Robot keeps moving without any change in its direction until it perceives an obstacle or finds the goal. The robot uses sonar ranger to detect the presence of obstacles and executes obstacle avoidance behavior. It continues searching for goal, which is grass field and as it finds it, starts moving towards that. The detection of goal is done with camera, to find green color field using Blob finder algorithm. Once it reaches at goal, it starts executing mowing behavior along with other appropriate behaviors.

Benefits of the Project

Compared to the electric lawn mower that needs to be plugged in all the time or the conventional lawn mower that releases gas emissions and harmful toxins, robot lawn mowers are much more environmentally friendly, and will help you limit the effect on the environment and so many others.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Safety is the most important consideration in the use of a remote controlled lawn mower. In the hazardous environment, it is prudent to keep the operator at a remote distance from the hazard. However, even in a less hazardous environment there is good reason to consider remote controlled lawn mowing operations.
