Project Summary

Our project will show how we can implement algorithms for face detection and recognition in image processing to build a system that will detect and recognize the frontal faces of employees in an Office. “A face is the front part of a person’s head from the forehead to the chin or the corresponding part of an animal” (Oxford Dictionary). In human interactions, the face is the most important factor as it contains important information about a person or individual. All humans have the ability to recognize individuals from their faces. The proposed solution is to develop a working prototype of a system that will facilitate office control for any Firm, University, Private & Government Sectors by detecting the frontal faces of employees from a picture taken in an office, and permit them either they are Authorized or Un-Authorized., 

• In recent years, research has been carried out and face recognition and detection systems have been developed. Some of which are used on social media platforms, banking apps, government offices e.g. the Metropolitan Police, Facebook.

Project Objectives

The objective is to create a virtual security system that will integrate with the real-world environment that enables authorized personnel in an office. 

Visitor & Employee Tracking:

Face matching allows the system to adopt a more reliable approach in granting access and permission to an individual. It makes the entire security system robust and provides the administrator a greater control. Oftentimes, in large establishments, there are different levels of employees who might not be aware of out of bounds areas for them. Employees and visitors are prone to wander off in big establishments, explore the premises, and even in some cases, get lost. Using facial recognition not only helps in assessing the ratio of employees and visitors being present in places they should not be, but it also helps establish an extra layer of security because of the adept and smooth tracking through facial recognition.

Through facial recognition, companies get notified immediately if any unknown entities are entering a specific area that is unauthorized for their entries. It helps in keeping track of the trajectory of any employee or visitor making any unauthorized entry for security purposes. It helps in avoiding any confusion and in some cases, crimes.

Intelligence Tool & Blacklisting Feature:

The facial recognition system itself analyzes suspicious entries in the offices and notifies or the security of the suitable person. Employees or visitors with access to someone else’s ID card can enter places even when they’re not meant to be on the premises. A facial recognition system instantly analyzes this anomaly and notifies the proper channels.

Many companies also use blacklist features in order to mark certain people to keep track of their presence at any time on their premises. When any person on a blacklist enters the premises of a company, facial recognition instantly matches their face in their database and notifies the company of the presence of the blacklisted person. This helps the security to track the movement of the said person and see if any delinquent activities are being performed by them.

Project Implementation Method

The project will initialize through a security camera, a person or employee face will be detected and then it will match up with the dataset of the company and decide whether this person is authorized to enter this area or not based upon the privileges provided to that employee by the company.

Benefits of the Project

Benefits include high-security concerns will be resolved reducing human effort by using Facial recognition methods. The Project is so tremendous and so flexible that we can easily manage and secure the entire firm with proper facial recognition Software

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Technical details include efficient use of IDE like pycharm and Anaconda python. Database systems(SQL Server) and some hardware elements for testing purposes.
