Project Summary

The ARMS Armory Management System is a computerized registry of weapons, gear, ammo, officers, certifications and posts integrated for rapid assignments, issues and returns, and supporting security infrastructure to prevent the unauthorized removal of weapons.

The weapons tracking solution utilizes mobile technology to track weapons, ammunitions and other valuable assets. The system provides an audit trail as to who, what, when and where of weapons inventory. rapidly inventory weapons and other gear and find items that are misplaced or missing.

Project Objectives

The system provides an auditable record of all firearms issues, returns and movements and weapon maintenance information by providing the management information and generates report based on real time information captured, to include a full weapon inventory at any given time.

Project Implementation Method

This app concerns requirements necessary to automate the present manual effort associated with ammunition inventory management and reporting at the afloat end-user level. Functional characteristics for the application software are developed, program and data structures are proposed and possible sources of data are identified. The end-product of this research is the software requirements specification. This document supports further design development of the application software and is independent of programming language and system hardware configuration. In addition to tracking weapons and gear, ARMS provides software components to track weapons cleanings, inspections, maintenance, test firings and similar functions. ARMS also includes functionality to track and look-up weapons certifications, 'Do Not Arm' status, items-required-for-a-post, and similar database lookups during transfer and return processing.
