Industrial safety and maintenance is an important subject in the curriculum of technicians, technologists and engineers, in order to guarantee competences on the protection of people, goods and equipment in different industrial processes. In particular, industrial and manufacturing engineers and occupational hazards professionals must strengthen skills and abilities to assess risks, find fault, detect dangerous situations and generate mitigation and intervention plans. Therefore, Arc Flash Analysis by using Augmented Reality is an advanced tool to assure this safety. An arc flash study is basically the evaluation of a workplace facility by an electrical safety expert to determine hazards and risks in relation to electrical systems allowing employers to calculate how much energy will be released during an arc flash and how it will affect employees based on their distance from the electrical equipment. This information can be used by companies to effectively train employees on the hazards associated with their job responsibilities and to identify the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary to keep workers safe in an arc flash incident. The main idea of the project is to calculate the severity of hazards and alarm the employee by using a mobile phone application which will provide every information to the employee regarding the severity and PPE’s required.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

The project is aimed to fulfill these objectives. For this, A system is considered on ETAP for performing arc flash analysis. Arc flash can be done after modelling a system, performing load flow analysis, running short-circuit analysis and protective relay co-ordination. Contribution of each bus/breakers will be observed and listed during the worst case. This data will be stored to cloud. A GSM will be introduced in the system to send the status of breakers. According to their status, fault current will be calculated on the database and respective incident energy, clearance distance and PPE level will be calculated. These data are then sent to Unity3D. This is where Augmented Reality comes into play. Based on the data, boundaries are shown with colors, distance will be displayed and based on the distance, worker will be informed about the current boundary and risk level he is exposed to. In this modern technology, smartphones are available to almost every employee. Augmented reality is used to graphically explain the proper PPE, working distance and the hazard to every employee even not qualified enough to understand the labels. 
 

Benefits of the Project Technical Details of Final Deliverable

It is a proto-type project The basic propose of the project is the safety for the staff and other members visiting the installed panels in the industry. The idea of augmented reality is a new concept that can introduced in the industry for technical revolution. The designed app would provide the necessary safety instructions and information about the installed panel to the visitors to make safety guaranteed without any safety guide inferences. It also detects your distance from the panel and indicates the one from the harm that could be happen to one in case of different faults appear in the panel.
