Aquatic Trash Bin
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryOur world is 70-71% water. Water is very essential for life on earth, yet water pollution is one of the most serious environmental threats that we face today. Water pollution has been a topic of concern in recent years both in Pakistan and worldwide. The pollutants and toxins are assisting the amassing of the toxicant in water thus affecting aquatic life. The floating objects on the water surface many times get clogged in the drainage system and cause chocking of the system which results in other harmful effects. According to UNESCO, Plastic debris cause deaths of more than 1 million seabirds and more than 100,000 sea mammals every year. Also, such floating objects are consumed by the animals residing in the waters as food items and become the cause of their death. Many species are endangered while others numbers are decreasing rapidly. Reversing the effect of water pollution is very difficult and can take years to remove all the harmful substances from the water. Also, huge manpower and budget would be required for the same. The innovative system that we propose offers a unique and automated way to tackle water pollution by eliminating manual labor thus increasing efficiency and decreasing the cost and time needed. The main aim of this Aquatic Trash Bin project is to clean the waste that gets accumulated on the surface of water bodies thus keeping the water clean hence decreasing pollution. This project being remote-operated is controlled by an app using, we use gear motors to provide the movement and servo motor arrangement for the steering. To make the boat work we have implemented one rechargeable battery which would charge the battery. Wire gauge net is used for garbage collection. Similarly, there is a camera on front of the boat for live monitoring and better controlling. Collected Garbage will be gathered in a container which will also be automated to unload through app and a sensor will be used to send a message to user when the container will be full.
Project Objectives"Aquatic Trash bin" provides innovative ways to control water poluution. The main objectves are
• To control water pollution.
• To save the marine life.
• Reduce labor cost & effort.
• To do work effectively and timely manner.
Overview:
For implementation of this project, we will require Software and hardware modules. Software will include Android app. Hardware modules will require A Boat (to collect garbage from the surface of water), A container controller (which will control container using hydraulic) and a fully instruments automation module which will control all electrical instruments from android mobile using app. A level sensor will be mounted on container to send a message when the container will be filled to a specific level. Live video from the boat’s camera will be shown on app’s interface for better navigation.
Required Software Tools and languages:
C++
XML
Java/kotlin
Firebase
Benefits of our project include:-
- The purpose of this boat is to automate the garbage collecting process in the lakes, ponds and rivers.
- This project is affordable, multi-tasking and solid for water waste management companies.
- The system has been developed for environmental transformation. The system can perform different tasks that are collecting the garbage and auto unloading of collected garbage.
- This system will help to control water pollution which indirectly will save the marine life which die because of water pollution.
- It is also fast than traditional water garbage collecting method hence increasing the speed and efficiency both.
We will use node-mcu with wifi module to connect 3 gear motors, 1 level sensor, 1 hydraulic, 1 H-Bridge and 1 camera. Two motors will be used for the movement of boat using app and the third motor will be used to operate the conveyor. The conveyor will land in a container to collect garbage. The container will be using a sensor to send the message to the user when the container will be filled. Hydraulic will be used to unload container. Camera will be used to provide the front view of the boat for better navigation.
Final Deliverable Project will contain: -
- A working boat which will be controlled through an android app.
- A boat controlling interface will be shown when app is opened.
- User can Start boat engine by clicking on start button.
- Forward, Reverse, Left, Right motion controlling buttons will be available for moving boat.
- A Button will be available to unload garbage container.
- A video window will also be present to provide the video from camera present on boat.
