Project Summary

Human alertness varies very quickly with respect to different time intervals which will affect the tasks that requires proper activeness and vigilance. This can have huge consequences in various occupations that require a very high level of alertness e.g. seminars, conferences, assembly sessions, high command meetings and many other important sessions. These sessions consume a lot of public money to be just happen but unfortunately in many cases it has been observed that these sessions go unfruitful just because most of the participant are not alert or in severe cases found sleepy. Changes in the level of alertness are correlated with fluctuations in blood pressure readings, Heartbeat values, EEG waves and many other medical parameters.

This final year project could lead to a practical system for monitoring of the alertness of humans in attention-critical settings.

Activeness, Alertness or Consciousness is defined as the state of being aware of and responsive of one’s surroundings. Alert Person is aware of what’s happening in its surrounding and is doing his work with full attention and is ready to take action on any particular situation. Being Alert during his/her work is very important. As an alert and active person is capable of doing that work way more effectively and efficiently than a non-alerted person.

Fatigue can be defined as tiredness or inactiveness due to stress or other mental issues.

Alertness and consciousness are main aspects to many daily purposes such as (During Driving, Heavy duty works, In flights for pilots, Important Conferences, For students during classes and seminars).

Being Unalerted or inactive can cause a great damage such as if one is driving a car or a bus accident can happen and can cause a great damage to him/her and others only due to the inactiveness of him/her. If students or the ones who are attending the seminar or the meeting are not active or attentive to that seminar than that seminar or meeting is just a waste of time and is not beneficial. The Variation in the levels of Activeness, Alertness or Consciousness of any individual cause’s major effects & impact on their lives. 

Alertness, activeness or consciousness of any individual depends on Heart Rate, Blood Pressure level, Mental Alertness and activeness etc. Stress and mental illness of one can cause variation in the levels of Alertness, activeness and consciousness. These are also affected by the age factor, Daily life problems (e.g. family issues, financial issues, work load) effect the mental state of one making him/her inactive and less alert towards his/her work. 

Project Objectives

  • Detection of Fatigue Level.
  • Detection of Consciousness and Unconsciousness Level.
  • Detection of Alertness and Activeness of individual.
  • Detection of Microsleeps.
  • Detection of some sudden Medical issues.
  • Fetching Data from sensors into microcontroller.
  • Visual Representation of collected data.
  • Setting up an Alarm system for abnormal behavior.
  • Making this system IOT based.

Project Implementation Method

The proposed model will detect the symptoms of varying Alertness, Consciousness and fatigue levels and evaluate its effects for many purposes.

Heart rate sensor, Blood Pressure measuring sensors and an Electrodes based Headset for EEG will be utilized to determine the alertness, consciousness etc. Forward to this we will be fetching the data from sensor into Microcontroller with our techniques. All these sensors-based data will be used in such a way that we will be able to detect the normal and abnormal behavior of any person during any kind of circumstances. After then we will be making an Alarming (including alarming inside of cars, buses & airlines) system. & a Visual representation system of Bio medical data in terms of graphical & mathematical form for the display of normal and abnormal behaviors. Our system through alerts and reports each user know when they are at risk because lifesaving is one of our priority.

Another major aim of our product is to making a anti-sleep measurement system that can predict the activeness/alertness of the brain during highly sensitive sessions and meetings(e.g. WHO meetings, Army sessions on high alerts, Imp sessions of Students)  and  After going one step more toward the success, we will be going to make our complete system IOT based so that we can retrieve and access all that data from anywhere. So that all that data can be used for the sake of Humanity in such a way that we can make someone’s life easier and secure. Our brainwave technology has been independently lab-validated and field-validated by researchers, and proven to effectively and accurately measure an individual’s ability to resist sleep.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Heart Rate Sensor: For Measuring the Heart rate. As Consciousness and fatigue is dependent on Heart Rate.

Blood Pressure Sensor: For measuring Blood Pressure. Blood pressure greatly affect the fatigue level.

Electrodes Based Head set: Our purposed model concludes an electrodes-based headset for the measurement of the EEG waves as EEG waves gives us information about the level of consciousness and fatigue.

Microcontroller: For fetching the data from the sensors and providing it to our system.

WIFI Module: For sending our data wirelessly to server and Alarm system.

Alarm System: For getting an alarm for abnormal values.
