Alcohol Detecting and Notification System for Controlling Drunk Driving
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryØThe use of drinking excessive alcohol while driving, is one of the main causes of accidents when driving in traffic .
Ø Usually, to check the levels of alcohol in the human body, can be done with some medical tests such as blood tests or urine tests. But some medical tests require considerable time to obtain measurement results, which ranges from about 2 hours.
ØThis motivated us to design a device that can detect the large levels of alcohol found in and around the body.
ØSo that the design of this tool can be used as a checking tool or a safety device on the driver.
ØThe happening of accidents made us think to add such features which can prevent them from happening.
ØSo we decided to add a feature of sending messages to the emergency contacts in case of accident.
ØThis is thought to be implemented by GPS and GSM modules.
Project ObjectivesThe objectives are following:
ØTo detect alcohol level in driver’s body and notify the driver.
ØTo provide accident monetizing and prevention.
ØTo send alert message to the registered mobile numbers in case of emergency.
Project Implementation Method? An input of emergency contact via mobile will be taken as data to notify the contact when collision is detected.?
? A microcontroller and a MQ-3 Alcohol sensor will be used to measure the alcohol level.
??If Alcohol level is greater than threshold the ignition will be stopped.
Implementation Steps:
To Buy and select the suitable components
System Designing
Programming/Coding
Hardware designing
To develop an android app to input driver’s data
System testing
Results and finalization
Benefits of the ProjectThe sensors used in this project are smaller in size, not so bulky, hence can be carried. The project based on this technology is self sufficient within itself and thus can be used as a safety system for any vehicle and the human being driving it by preventing the accidents to occur. The system isn’t police dependent.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe project consists of two parts:
1)HARDWARE SYSTEM with two sensors MQ-3 sensor and temperature sensor LM-35 capable to detect alcohol in human body also GPS and GSM modules for detecting location and sending alerts(messages)
2) A software application developed on android platform which enables pairing of hardware equipment with the smart phone. It will be used to input data of driver and send alert messages to the family.
