Our project Air-Touch is a portable and low-cost device which will embed a touch screen functionality into an electronics device e.g., Laptop or PC. We are introducing a full- fledged device which is going to work externally. This device is going to be handy and easy to use without any complicated processes. The core purpose of this device is to use the PC or laptop by touching on screen.
In our project, we are going to make an efficient and low-cost hardware structure that can be easily installed on any electronic gadget screen and its screen features can be controlled using a gesture with a specific distance. We are going to use microcontroller (Arduino) and sonar sensors for the control operation of the screen. At the end of the project, a device will be available for the educational institute and industry to make their work efficiently.
In our daily life computers and laptops are often used for the tasks which do not need touchscreen features. But sometimes, few tasks can be done faster by using touchscreen features. For example, after Covid-19 pandemic online learning methods in educational institutes or large online meetings in business sectors use mouse attached to systems to explain notes or elaborate presentations respectively by drawing on screens. This can be difficult to do by using a mouse. So, there should be a portable device that can be used anytime you need to activate the touchscreen feature of your screen. Our device will make the screen of a pc or laptop a touchscreen. It will be a portable device and will be available at a reasonable cost. This device will be beneficial for academic institutes and business houses where computer screens and laptops are used for daily tasks and study purposes.
We will complete our project by testing and improving the working of different components that we will be using in our project. Our device will include two major parts. First of all hardware part to observe the movement of object (finger or pencil) on the screen of the pc or laptop. Secondly the programming code which will do understanding of the movement of object and will perform the desired task such as clicking on a folder to open it or drawing on screen. These both parts will be integrated together to work on run time side by side.
Our device will entertain the user to have this portable feature anytime he wants. This device can be used in different fields like heavy machine industry. In heavy machine industries machine operators mostly use gloves while working. To use the built-in touch they have to remove the gloves. As we know that the touch sensors of the screen are very sensitive so it might be a problem using the screens. While our device is using an external method so it could be used with or without gloves. This device can help many fields.
Our final deliverable that we will make would be a full working device that will be portable and will have plug-and-run feature. We will also submit the full detailed documentation of the project. Drawings of the design of our hardware and details of working of every component will also be delivered in last deliverable. We are also planning to write a conference paper on the problem and our purposed solution.
