In today’s world, Automation is a very important part of invention. Presently, manually handled devices are commonly used for cutting the grass over the lawn. Because of this, there is pollution and loss of energy. The old grass cutters need to be replaced by automated one where system will work for guidance and obstacle detection using battery as a power source.So,We are going to make a AI based automatic grass cutter vehicle. Our machine will cut the lawn grass automatically which is powered by solar energy. By the use of AI this machine will take decision and predict where to start and where to end. Because of AI system this machine will be much more time and power efficient.

Project Objectives

• To utilize the renewable energy source that is basically the solar energy.

• To make it a user friendly.

• To utilize modern day technology.

• To make a more efficient robotic machine.

Project Implementation Method

First of all we will create a body structure for our project. For that we will use PVC pipe because it is cheap and light weight.

Then we will have to design a circuit to utilize the solar energy efficiently. For that we will place solar plate on X-axis and Y-axis moveable system so the face of our solar panel is always towards the sun.

After that we will place our motors on the body of project with motor drivers to operate them.

Initially we will test our project only by using ultra sonic sensor placed at the front of our project body. Ultra-sonic sensor will detect the obstacles in its way and send signal to the controller system to avoid the object.

After that we will include real time image processing system in our project  using raspberry pi and 5 megapixel camera we will train our robotic vehicle using the python or MATLAB lab language.

Once all component are in there place then our machine will be smart enough to detect the obstacle in its way. It can decide where to start, where to turn and where to end.

Benefits of the Project Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our project is a hardware robotic vehicle like a car having wheels which can move the vehicle on the grass surface, moreover, the wheels can be modified to continues track chains to get more stability and to remove chances to stuck in difficult terrains. Powerful motors that rotate the wheel or continuous track chains, power is biggest concern in this project because the vehicle is compact, and it should be use efficiently. Main source is the battery that continuously provides power to it since it is cordless device so external power source should be there. For this scenario, solar panel will be mounted on it.

Blade is installed on the center of vehicle pointing down to achieve our application goal. The grass can be cut and vacuumed by the blade itself and the wastage is thrown away in the basket that is mounted at the end of vehicle. 

To avoid hurdles and to make it more efficient, camera is installed on it that calculates real time data and takes decisions to move in specific direction. Camera takes picture before taking next step. Some other Ultrasonic sensor are also mounted in each side of the vehicle that indicates whenever there are objects in the field and take decision according to the distances from the objects in real time. Camera will check the grass level and maintain the blade to cut specific length of grass.

To integrate all these operation, Raspberry Pi is used, and the other components will be integrated with this. Raspberry Pi has the memory to save the information and the calculation readings that help it to perform the operations of it.
