 A cheap solution is provided for gaze-tracking. A Logitech 4k web-cam and is used as a capturing device. A software based solution is proposed for controlling mouse pointer using ‘eye gaze’. It is a natural and efficient way of interaction with the computer. Mostly the methods of interaction available are complex and cumbersome. Using this method, for controlling mouse pointer increases the interaction efficiency and reduces complexity. This technique is a special boon for disabled persons, such as spinal cord injured, or paralyzed patients. These patients are entirely dependent on assistance.

Project Objectives

An eye tracking system is one of the best application for the handicapped person. To develop this application various algorithm methods and techniques of the image processing are used. These methods and techniques of image processing gives a well designed model for eye tracking system. 

Objectives are:

1)  Face Detection & Eyes detection
2)  Eye corner extraction
3)  Pupil and Iris detection
4)  Developing Algorithm to calculate point of eye gaze based on features extracted
5)  Showing results on a GUI.
6)  Developing a simple callibration technique.

Project Implementation Method

First of all, problem statement was defined, ‘design and implement an algorithm to provide
human-computer interaction based on eye gaze tracking, which will need only Webcam and PC’.
After literature study, some possible solutions were discussed, their drawbacks and their plus
points were observed, resulting in a basic algorithm which was revised during implementation.
Some techniques related to face and eyes detection were studied during literature study, also
obtained information about algorithms for facial & eyes features extraction.

Project can be discussed in two parts:

1) Features Detection: Detect and keep track of facial and eyes features, adequate for gaze
projection.

2) Gaze Projection: Use detected features to calculate Point of Gaze and track it.

Benefits of the Project

This technique is a special boon for disabled persons, such as spinal cord injured, or paralyzed patients. These patients are entirely dependent on assistance. Currently, disabled people usually type on the computer keyboard with long sticks that they hold in their mouth but the technique being presented is a benefaction for handicaps to help them be independent in their lives. Giving them a chance to work, socialize, and entertain in their lives.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Technical details of final deliverable is A laptop or a smart screen with a good resolution webcam headed on top of laptop/smart screen. In the laptop we must have done with image face and eye detection training , used algorithms and we must have made a GUI where we will be showing our results and Developing a simple callibration technique where the user can track the mouse pointer using eyes.
