Electricity plays an important role in our daily life and economic development. Efficient transmission and distribution of electricity is a fundamental requirement for every society. Shortfall in power generation due to increased power demand to meet up the industrial requirements is causing several social and economic difficulties.
In Pakistan Grid access to communities in far off and remote areas is not available, while grid extension to far flung areas is time consuming and economically not feasible. Renewable energy resources exist in abundance in rural areas which are eco-friendly while using thermal energy systems for power generation are expensive and emits toxic gases which causes many environmental hazards.
That is why smart grid energy systems is proposed, that are made from renewable sources (wind, biomass, hydral, photo voltaic).

The Smart Grid is an automated, widely distributed energy delivery network characterized by a two-?way flow of electricity and information, capable of monitoring and responding to changes in everything from power plants to customer preferences to individual appliances.
Our proposed project that is a multi objective, performs multi-tasking, optimization in microgrid that is the main theme of this project will help in achieving:
1.Reducing operating cost.
2.Peak electricity demand reduction.
3.Reducing CO2 emission.
Use of diesel generators and conventional fuel for power generation in remote areas is economically not feasible and causes environmental pollution. The main objective of this thesis is to design and model an optimized model of hybrid renewable energy system for distributed generation of power in far off areas. Hybrid energy system is an immediate solution for the electrification of rural areas but high cost, unpredictable nature and climate conditions are the main challenges. The deliverable will include: 1) A report that will analyze the existing legislation and regulatory frameworks implemented in the energy markets at various levels (i.e., local, national, supranational and international); 2) Analysis of the emerging and innovative smart grid business models and the energy-market model.
